Car Fires Snarls Traffic at Babcock and Three Degree Road in Ross

The car caught fire just east of the busy intersection.

A car fire tied traffic in knots Monday afternoon just east of the intersection of Babcock Boulevard and Three Degree Road in Ross Township.

Firefighters arrived on the scene shortly before 3 p.m. and quickly extinguished the fire, which was contained to the engine compartment of the blue, two-door Saturn sedan. No one was hurt.

The timing of the fire, coming as school buses were returning children home from North Hills Junior and Senior High schools, created long lines of traffic on both roadways.

No word on what started the fire, but the driver reportedly said she heard her engine making "funny noises" just before the engine stalled, and the fire started.

It took crews about 20 minutes to clear the area and open all lanes to traffic again.
