Excavation Continues for New Ross Convenience Store

A new Sheetz facility is expected to open in November at the corner of Babcock Boulevard and Cemetery Lane.

A new Sheetz gas station, convenience store and car wash are scheduled to open the first week of November at the corner of Babcock Boulevard and Cemetery Lane in Ross, according to company spokeswoman Karen McCabe.

Excavation of the site at 3025 Babock Boulevard began several weeks ago when tri-axle dump trucks began carrying tons of earth to the top of Cemetery Lane.

The dirt is being dumped on an ever-rising hillside that RCC Construction owns.

The site is above the Cascades Townhomes and Apartments.

Each truck carries about 25 cubic yards of dirt. The trucks make as many as 100 trips a day.

Once excavation is complete, construction of the 5,000-square-foot facility will begin. Sheetz Engineering Permit Manager David Mastrostefano told Ross commissioners in May part of the excavated hillside above the new store will be landscaped with new trees.

He said the company expects to hire 50 full-and part-time employees.

Sheetz, a family-owned business based in Altoona operates more than 350 stores in six states.
