Giant Eagle's popular foodperks! program will end on May 31, according to an article in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, but the last day to earn the perks will be much sooner—Feb. 13.
The supermarket/gas station chain's fuelperks! program, however, will continue, the P-G reports. In fact, starting on Thursday, it will be supplemented by a 3-cent discount on gasoline for Advantage Card holders on the occasions when they don't use fuelperks!
Giant Eagle CEO Laura Karet said that the foodperks! program had become "a little too complex."

From our FB page: Karen Wilson Steinberger It was a nice bonus, but not the reason I shop @ GE or buy gas @ GetGo.

More FB comments: Diane Conover I never buy enough at one time to benefit from it. Most of the time we only got 50 cents off.
Jessica Zeppenfeld I never understood them anyway. Seemed like we never never had any. Then the Clerk ask would you like to use your foodperks? You get excited for a whole 28¢!
Samantha Kunsak Yeah the most I ever had off was 10%. Pretty greedy of them.

I don't see how it had become "a little too complex". They introduced it, didn't modify it for the duration of the program. It's their way of saying, they were losing money or just didn't see the value in it. Unless you are a soccer mom, you really didn't see much savings. Sure an extra 50 cents every month or so, but you already paid that extra amount on those bananas you buy. People need to wake up and realize that the fuelperks idea is a mask for higher prices.
