Patch Poll: Bottom Dollar vs. Good Cents
Have you visited the two discount grocery stores in Ross Towne Center? Which do you like better?
Good Cents has been open since Sunday, and judging from the parking lot in Ross Towne Center on McKnight Road plenty of people have been checking out Giant Eagle's first-in-the-area discount grocery store.
It's located right next door to Bottom Dollar Foods, which opened to large crowds this summer.
So who is winning Ross Township's grocery store war? Which one do you like better?
Take our poll and leave your comments in the box below.

There is something about Bottom Dollar (BD) that I don't like. It seems clinical for lack of a better word. They don't seem to really have anything. I think the layout is horrible and it seems so small. The only thing I found there that I really liked was some small pies. I was not a fan of their meat and it was pricey. I was not impressed at all. The selection of every type of product was minimal.
I just tried Good Cents yesterday and the first impression was night and day, to me at least. The layout seems like a super market and they had decent prices. Unsure if they were great but not bad. I bought some hamburger and it seems much better than BD's.
I signed up for one of their cards but without fuel/food perks I am unsure if I would shop there over the main Giant Eagles. Since it is owned by the same parent company I think it would be wise for them to allow that as well as take their coupons.
If I am already there and need something I will pop in there again. I definitely would shop their over BD. I am just not impressed with BD at all as I said. Maybe other BD's are better, I don't know. That is the only BD I was ever in.

Comments from our Facebook page:
Richie Bing I wish both had never opened and we had a real choice in a real grocery store like Wegman's or Martin's. I could easily see Good Cents putting Bottom Dollar out of business, then GE closing Good Cents later because it may hurt the McIntyre GE.
Mara Addison I am with Richie on his vote for Wegmans. but between the 2 current stores my husband is firmly for bottom dollar and I am a good cents girl!

I am not a fan of the entry way at Bottom Dollar. I can see collisions with people exiting the store and entering. If they would have shifted the entry about 2 feet, it would work. Anyone else see that? They should have went with an entry and exit door and not one. And what's the deal with the turnstyle?

And the reason why you do not get the fuelperks is because of the low prices. At Giant Eagle, you pay a little more because the fuelperks you are 'earning' are being prepaid by you little by little until you redeem them, which is really a 'refund' in the end. If you earn 10 cents off a gallon of gas, which is hardly anything, that at most you are saving $3 if you buy 30 gallons. But you would have then spent $107.70 if the price of gas was $3.59 with the discount. So are you really saving? I think not. But there are fools out there that go for this. The only, ONLY, way you can take advantage of this system is to stickly buy gift cards. That's my 2 bottom cents.

I choose bottom dollar. Good Cents was out of some advertized items and the service was painfully slow at the deli counter. I'll stick to the main Giant eagle stores if I want something from Giant Eagle. Bottom dollar claims that it will beat anyone else's price by one cent.

I wish we had a nice big Trader Joes ! I like Aldis for some things. But really. Shop n save is pretty fair priced. As a foodie I swoon for GE Market District and Whole Foods. But who can afford them????

The rumor is that Trader Joe's is interested in the property where Rave Cinemas is located. Once the new Cinemark opens in McCandless Crossing next fall and Rave closes, you may have your wish for a Trader Joe's.

Bottom Dollar is cheaper than Good Cents with a lot of items. I think that Giant Eagle is just greedy, of course, it's a business, so it is going to be, but I don't like to shop at Giant Eagle and rarely do, unless it is the only place open when I need to get something. I agree with the comment that Good Cents will probably just put Bottom Dollar out of business, then close its store and force people back to Giant Eagle. I like Shop n Save and Kuhn's best of all!
