Peters Patch Local Editor Wins Golden Quill Award

Andrea Bosco took first place for spot/breaking news. Finalists were Cranberry Patch Local Editor Jessica Sinichak for spot/breaking news and Plum-Oakmont Patch Local Editor Heidi Dezayas for community engagement.

 

Peters Patch Local Editor Andrea Bosco won a Golden Quill Award Monday night for online spot/breaking news at the 48th annual Golden Quill Awards held at the Sheraton Hotel, Station Square, Pittsburgh.

Zandy Dudiak, associate regional editor for Western Pennsylvania Patch Region 2, and freelance writer/photographer Sarah Klingler also contributed to Bosco's winning story: "Woman Dies at Hospital Following Standoff With Police."

Patch also had two finalists in the competition:

  • Heidi Dezayas, Plum-Oakmont Patch local editor, was nominated in the online community engagement news category for "Mother, Two Daughters from Plum Drown During Flash Flooding on Friday" and a number of other stories posted as the tragedy unfolded. Also contributing to her reports were Dudiak; Julie Martin, freelance writer; Tim McAteer, regional editor for Western Pennsylvania Patch Region 2; and Becky Brindle, Upper St. Clair Patch local editor.

The Golden Quills competition, sponsored by the Press Club of Western Pennsylvania, recognizes professional excellence in written, photographic, broadcast and online journalism in western Pennsylvania.
