Bailey and Chance like to hang out on the futon in Forest Hills-Regent Square local editor Stephanie Rex's office, chew on their antler toys and nap while she works! Chance also occasionally enjoys trying to jump in her lap!
When Canon-McMillan local editor Amanda Gillooly isn't using her dictionary, her "baby boy" Lincoln, whom she's dubbed the "Unofficial Spokescat of CM Patch," puts it to good use. He oversees her work when she is writing from home, often taking a nap on her planner or notebooks.
This is Cleo (short for Cleopatra). Cleo is Sewickley Patch local editor Larissa Dudkiewicz's boxer.
Zoey keeps a watchful eye on Peters Patch local editor Andrea Bosco as she conducts phone interviews.
Riley takes a break between Chartiers Valley local editor Mike Jones' breaking news assignments.
Evey keeps Upper St. Clair guest editor Harry Funk company as he tries not to develop writer's block. She participates in his Patchy day by reclining on his briefcase, next to his computer.

For those of us with pets who work at Patch, every day is Take Your Dog (or Cat) to Work Day.

We are lucky enough to do a bulk of our work from home, meaning more time to spend with our dogs and cats. Our pets share our home offices with us, sometimes curling up near the computers on our desks and, other times, flipping our hands off the keyboards in an effort to get us to pay attention to them.

That's one reason we try to help our readers find their lost pets and run stories in hopes of finding forever homes for dogs and cats in local shelters.

So, did you take your dog to work on Friday? If so, upload a photo to share with us. We'd love to see it!

First celebrated in 1999, Pet Sitters International's Take Your Dog To Work Day was created to celebrate the great companions dogs make and to encourage their adoption from humane societies, animal shelters and breed rescue clubs. This annual event asks pet lovers to celebrate the humane-canine bond and promote pet adoption by encouraging their employers to support TYDTW Day.

There's even a Take Your Dog to Work Day song!

I enjoy the company of my two cats at work as well. They are demanding little bosses, but they sure make for a great work environment!

Anyone who actually took their pet to work really does need to get a life! Not trying to be mean, just saying...REALLY????? If you own your own business, I'll cut you some slack. Other than that...hmmmmm

Oh, Jim... I hope you have something in your life you can be passionate about.
Taking animals to work, or anywhere in public for that matter, is relatively common in a lot of European countries as well as Australia. It is good exercise for both owners and animals and it keeps stress at a manageable level.
I understand that not everyone is able to enjoy the companionship of a pet (allergies, finance, desire, etc.), but this is no reason to attack those of us who love our animals. We all "have a life" and what we choose to do with it is our privilege.

Jim wishes he had a dog that didn't run away every time he turned his back. So sad Jim. I always say people who dont like animals should be kept an eye on. Why not take them to work everyone smiles a little more seeing that wagging tail.

I love my cat! But for dog lovers, taking your pet to an out-of-the-home office? Cat lovers know not to try this as the cat prefers its own domain. Besides how many "cat bites man"stories do we hear in the news? Finally, as responsible pet owners, are we filling our own selfish needs thereby disrespecting our co-workers who may not have the same belief as we may have about our pets? Just sayin'

Most people ask around the office prior to taking their pet to work. Most people cant find their cats cause 50% of cats are "outdoor" cats another words not really a pet but rather a neighborhood annoyance, wandering the yards. Its funny how no one ever asked what the person was doing to the dog prior to being bitten. Dog don't just randomly walk around biting people for the heck of it. When he growls or shows teeth obviously your doing something he doesn't like and he is giving you fair warning!

Ella is correct in the lowering of stress. That's why they have therapy dogs. You can leave a cat for weeks and they could care less. Leave a dog for 15 minutes and he thrill like they haven't seen you in days. If we all acted that enthused to see someone we like this world might be a better place.

Sorry Stephanie, I have taken my cat to work with me and she has never bite anyone. She was getting chemo treatments for cancer and my boss told me to bring her. She layed in her crate all day other than getting out to do her business and ate. Even now my boss doesn't mind if I bring her, she just curls up on the window and watches the animals and birds outside or she will jump up in someone lap and go to sleep.

b smith, i owned cats all my life and they never went outside unless on a lease and they were with me. A responsible cat owner never leaves their cats run.
