Swimmer Nearly Drowns at Settlers Cabin Wave Pool

Lifeguards rescued the 23-year-old man.

A man who nearly drowned Sunday afternoon while swimming at the Settlers Cabin Park Wave Pool is in critical condition, but is expected to survive.

Lifeguards pulled the man, 23, from the water around 2 p.m. and performed CPR on him before he was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital. His name has not been released.

Allegheny County police Lt. Andrew Schurman said the victim was conscious Monday morning and Allegheny County police detectives interviewed him about the incident.

How or why the victim went underwater is not known.

"It was at the end of the cycle. The water had just calmed down. There were no waves at the time, which made it easier to see something abnormal," a witness told WTAE TV.

The pool is located at Settlers Cabin Park in Robinson Township. The sprawling 1,610-acre park is split between Collier, Robinson and North Fayette townships.

A manager at the Settlers Cabin Wave Pool said he could not comment on Sunday afternoon’s incident.
