Dozens of trees and hundreds of tons of earth are being moved to make way for the final phase of the development.
What had been a thick grove of trees between McKnight Road and Babcock Boulevard is slowly disappearing as site preparation continues for the fourth and final phase of McCandless Crossing. (see video). It will include as many as nine restaurants, six of which have committed to the project, as well as 50 townhomes and a 12-screen Cinemark Movie Theater for starters. Owner Benny Ulloa is still hoping to open in a new location in the North Hills.
When owner Benny Ulloa says his new Emiliano’s restaurant in Cranberry features authentic Mexican, he means it from the food all the way to the décor. “We wanted to make people completely forget about what was here before,” he said. Located in the former CiCi’s Pizza in the Cranberry mall off Freedom Road, Emiliano’s held its soft opening Monday. The restaurant will hold a larger grand opening June 11, Ulloa said. Unable to reach agreement on a new lease, Ulloa closed his McIntyre Square restaurant at the end of March, but says he hopes to find a new location in the North Hills soon. On the eatery’s menu in Cranberry are a variety of homemade Mexican dishes, including appetizers, fajitas, quesadillas, vegetarian options and much more. …

Call it the battle of the gas perks. Giant Eagle and Shop 'n Save are offering their customers extra gasoline perks through Wednesday, May 29. Customers who spend $50 using a Giant Eagle Advantage Card at Pittsburgh-area Giant Eagle stores will receive double fuelperks at GetGo fuel and convenience store locations. In a similar promotion, Shop 'n Save shoppers will receive 20 cents off per gallon of gas for every $50 they spend on groceries. Those pump perks can be redemmed at participating Sunoco stations. The promotions come just in time for the Memorial Day holiday weekend, when millions are expected to travel the nation’s highways. As part of the day's events, Nardone and Angell will lead special gluten-free cooking classes at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Nardone is author of "Cooking for Isaiah: Gluten-Free & Dairy-Free Recipes for Easy, Delicious Meals" and editor-in-chief of the digital gluten-free magazine "Easy Eats." Staples, which already shares space with Duro Dry Cleaners at the entrance to North Hills Village on McKnight Road in Ross Township, is making more room for a Destination XL Men's clothing store. Destination XL, which caters to big and tall customers, has another store at 5205 Campbells Run Road in Robinson. The clothing store will occupy the portion of Staples closest to McKnight Road. Workers have installed a wall dividing the two businesses, and built a separate entrance for the clothing store. A new indoor trampoline park in the Leetsdale Industrial Park is set to offer guests a high-flyin' experience starting on Wednesday. When Sky Zone opens the doors to 740 Brickworks Drive, visitors will find a seemingly endless sea of wall-to-wall trampoline courts under high ceilings. Joel Karg, general manager, said Sky Zone has five trampoline courts, including the main 5,000-square-foot court, two dodgeball courts, a Sky Slam court with two basketball rims and a three-lane foam pit.
