2013 Primary Election Results: Voters Select Newcomer for North Hills School Board

Incumbent Tom Kelly failed to win nomination from either party. Two other incumbents will face challengers in the fall.

It appears there will be at least one newcomer to the North Hills School Board after the November general election. Annette Giovengo Nolish won both the Democratic and Republican nominations for North Hills School Director in Tuesday's primary election. On the Republican side by Michael Yeomans, Joe Muha, and Matthew Sean Edlinger Sr. also won nomination. They will face incumbents Kathy Reid, Sharon Schrim, and newcomer Helen (Dee) Spade, who won the Democratic nomination. Incumbent Thomas Kelly failed to win nomination from either party. These are the election results as they are reported from Allegheny County.

Below are the results for the contested races in the May 21 primary. A number of other races have been decided because candidates were running unopposed. Primary 2013: What Do You Know About the Candidates?

North Hills Patch has the rundown on all of the local races in Ross Township and West View.

Primary election day is Tuesday, May 21. The general election is Tuesday, Nov 5. Ten candidates are challenging three incumbents for four seats on the North Hills School School Board. All of the candidates are cross-filed, which means they are running for the nomination of both the Republican and Democratic parties. The three incumbents include Sharon Schrim, Kathy Reid, and Tom Kelly. Incumbent Tim Burnett's term expires at the end of the year, but he is not seeking re-election. Helen (Dee) Spade has worked for the North Hills School District for nearly four decades.

Helen (Dee) Spade, who has worked for the North Hills School District custodial staff for nearly 40 years, is running for North Hills School Director. The following is her statement announcing her candidacy: I am a candidate because of my love of children and recognition that schools are the cornerstones of our communities and deciding factors in our futures and quality of life. I want to make sure that children are always the first consideration in any decision-making. North Hills School Board Candidates Answer the Question: Is There a 'Disconnect' Between Board and Community?

Nine of the ten candidates for four open seats on the North Hills School Board discussed a variety of issues on at "Meet the Candidates" night on Tuesday, April 30.

The North Hills elementary Parent-Teacher Associations hosted a Meet the School Board Candidates Night on Tuesday, April 30th in the North Hills Junior High auditorium. All but one of the ten candidates, Matthew Sean Edlinger Sr., participated. After introducing himself or herself, each candidate was asked to answer the same questions within a time limit.  North Hills Patch has been posting videos of the candidates answering one of those questions.
