North Hills Makes Adjustments After Minor Delays on First Day of School

While arrivals went smoothly, some elementary students had to wait longer than normal for buses to take them home.

While the morning was nearly flawless, North Hills School district administrators admit there were a few minor problems getting students home on time on Tuesday's first day of school, and first day under the new bell and bus schedule.

Administrators met with First Student, the district's transportation provider, and several adjustments were put into place Wednesday afternoon.

"Normal first day of school delays occurred at North Hills Middle School in addition to some confusion by students as to where certain buses were located." said North Hills Communications coordinator Amanda Hartle. "These factors resulted in minor delays at Highcliff and McIntyre elementary schools on Tuesday. However, a solution was drafted and implemented that the district believes will solve the issue."

Hartle said overall, the administration is pleased with how the new schedule is working.

"Other than the issues at North Hills Middle School, there were fewer transportation issues yesterday for the first day of school than in previous years," Hartle said.

Hartle also said there is "no truth" to a claim by some people that seven elementary children were "lost" on the first day of school.
