North Hills School Board to Vote on Contract for Middle School Air Conditioning Project

The project, which may include other renovations, is expected to last until Oct. 2015.

The North Hills School Board will vote Monday to authorize the administration to negotiate and enter into a contract with Thomas and Williamson for construction management for the Middle School air conditioning and related projects.

Initial costs are estimated at $6,830,889.60, with the money already set aside in a Capital Projects Fund.

Board member Ed Wielgus said Monday night that the district has been "preparing and saving" for this project for several years and that by "being fiscally responsible" the work will not have an impact on the district's operating budget nor tax rates.

"This installation and renovation project has been on our radar for quite a while," said North Hills Communications Coordinator Amanda Hartle. "Completing this project will bring the middle school building’s HVAC systems to a level that matches the system capabilities of all other buildings throughout the district. It also will provide the opportunity to possibly make other improvements on the hilltop campus as well."

Those other improvements may include:
1. Enhanced security entrance at the Middle school
2. Security cameras for the Senior and Middle School Parking lots
3. Middle School Radon Mitigation
4. Carpet replacement in some Middle School classrooms
5. Middle school roof repairs
6. Library updates in the Middle and High Schools

The board hopes to award bids by March of 2014 with construction beginning in April 2014 and concluding by October of 2015.
