King Breakfast Set for Jan. 16 at La Roche College

Dr. Marcus Rediker, distinguished professor of Atlantic history at the University of Pittsburgh, will deliver the keynote address.

The 12th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Unity Breakfast will be held at 8:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 16 at the Zappala Student Center of La Roche College, located at 9000 Babcock Blvd. 

“Honoring Diversity in Our Community” is the theme of this year's event, which is sponsored by the North Hills Unity Breakfast Committee. Dr. Marcus Rediker, distinguished professor of Atlantic history at the University of Pittsburgh will deliver the keynote address.  

The Indian Cultural Association of Pittsburgh (ICAP) will receive the 2012 Spirit of Unity Award. Joy Maxberry Woodruff will act as mistress of ceremonies.

Registration will begin at 8 a.m. with breakfast at 8:30 a.m. 

The cost of the breakfast is $18 for adults and $9 for students. Seating is limited, and early registration is encouraged. To make reservations please send a check, made payable to North Hills Anti-Racism Coalition, to MLK Breakfast, P.O. Box 101519, Pittsburgh, PA 15237.

Reservations will not be accepted without payment and must be postmarked no later than Jan. 9. Seating cannot be guaranteed without a reservation.

The North Hills Unity Breakfast Committee consists of members from the following organizations:  AARP, League of Women Voters of Greater Pittsburgh, North Hills Anti-Racism Coalition, North Hills Community Outreach, Pittsburgh North People for Peace, Sisters of Divine Providence, North Hills-McKnight AAUW, and the YWCA Greater Pittsburgh Center for Race and Gender Equity.
