Lenten Guide: Find the Closest Fish Fry to Where You Live in Ross or West View

Most offer dine-in or take-out service.

Lent began Wednesday, and many will abstain from eating meat products on Fridays—or through the entire season, which ends March 30, the Saturday before Easter. 

To help those home cooks—and encourage a sense of community in the effort—local churches are offering the traditional weekly fish fries. Below is a listing of where and when you can purchase dinners and sandwiches—whether you're celebrating Lent or just looking for a yummy meal. 

Fish Fries in Ross and West View: 

St. Sebastian Parish, 311 Siebert Road.

Dates: Every Friday during Lent except Good Friday. 

Time: 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. (4-7:3p.m. for takeout)

About: Dinner will be served in the Vincentian hall (school cafeteria). Enter through the front door of the school. Shrimp scampi, baked and fried fish, New England clam chowder, macaroni and cheese, pizza, salad and fruit. Also available on alternating weeks is potato pancakes, pierogies and haluski.

Cost: $9 fish dinner; $7 fish sandwich; $10 shrimp and linguine; $4.50
kids meal; free for children under 3.  

Takeout: Call after 3 p.m., 412-364-8999, or order online. Pick up begins at 4 p.m.


St. Teresa of Avila, 1000 Avila Court.

Dates: Every Friday through Lent, including Good Friday.

Time: 4:30-7:30 p.m. except for Good Friday, when it will be 3:30-6:30 p.m.

About: Dinner will be served in the Schoppol Hall and includes baked cod, fried cod, fried shrimp, and shrimp scampi with fresh-cut french fries, baked potato or mac and cheese and choice of cole slaw or applesauce, clam chowder or tomato florentine. Bread and drink included for dine-in customers. 

Cost: Dinners are $9 for adults and $4 for children ages 6-10. Free for children younger than 5. Sandwiches are $6. A la carte menu is available.

Seville Volunteer Fire Company, 124 Enger Avenue 

About: Every Friday during Lent 4:30p - 7:00p 
$8 Fish Dinner w/ coleslaw and mac & cheese

About: Dinner will be served in the school cafeteria;  Baked cod or “King cod” (fresh battered fried fish), and choice of two sides: pierogies, scalloped potatoes, green beans, coleslaw, applesauce or macaroni and cheese. Also includes roll with choice of homemade dessert and beverage (takeout excluded).

Dates: Every Friday during Lent

Time: 4:30-7:30 p.m.

Cost: $9 for adults, $6 for children ages 10 & under and free for children under age 3. Individual fish sandwich $6, bowl of Boston clam chowder soup and roll $3.

St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 201 Church Road, Wexford.

Dates: Fridays through Lent (including Good Friday). 

Time: 4:30-7 p.m.

About: Choice of hand-breaded fried cod, baked cod or fried shrimp, with two sides: french fries, baked potato, macaroni and cheese, coleslaw or applesauce. News England clam chowder or tomato Florentine soup are also included with dinner. Desserts are available. 

Cost: Cost is $9 for adult, $2 for children. Individual fish sandwiches are $6. 

Takeout:  Call 724-759-8659 (after 2 p.m.) 

Assumption Church, 45 North Sprague, Bellevue.

Dates: Every Friday in Lent (except Good Friday) 

Time: 4-7 p.m.

About: Dinner will be served McGovern Hall.  Hand-breaded fried cod, baked cod, shrimp, haluski, pierogies, french fries, macaroni and cheese, coleslaw and applesauce.
