I am this old... I remember being in that pharmacy as a child and waiting for my father to pick up my Mom and I. The street car would leave us off there... It had a great soda fountain.. it was a fun place for a kid to go.... Mom and I had a soda while waiting. Or.. we would stop.. grab a drink and then walk up our hill to Laurel Gardens. As an aside.. I was maybe 6 years old. Sixth Avenue was full of "jewel" plants that had pods that popped when you touched them. That was my reward for walking up the hill... to this day I still can't pass that plant without doing that... You are all correct... Its now Di Pietro's Many fond memories of coming home from town and enjoying simple pleasures

What a wonderful story, NML. You really brought it home when you mentioned the jewel plants. (We called them pop-it bead plants.) I, too, cannot walk by those without popping the seed pods. At the end of this summer, I introduced those plants to my granddaughter while taking our walks. She thinks they are "pretty cool."

I remember going there as a little girl, sitting on a stool at the soda fountain and drinking a Lemon Blend through a paper straw! :)

Ahhh yes ! A wonderful lemon blend! And those pop beads are awesome! We are lucky to have those experiences. NML ( Nina Mule Lyons)

Joe, you are right. That was probably too easy. But everyone is correct, it's the corner of Perry Highway and Center Avenue, and the current home of DiPietro's Restaurant. I will have to find something more challenging for next week.

What was the name of this pharmacy? Is this photo from the 1940's? 1950's?
Nina Lyons January 10, 2013 at 03:24 AM
Not sure .. I think 50 s. I was a child in the late 50 s so I think it could be previous. It was Berkley Pharmacy
Ruth January 10, 2013 at 11:44 AM
This was an EASY one for those of us lucky to grow up in West View (Where Everybody knew your name) area in the BEST of times! Berkley's the "BIG Drug Store". So how many know what was at the other end of the Block @ corner of Bellevue & Center??
Nina Lyons January 10, 2013 at 12:27 PM
I think there was another drug store?? In the middle was the bar and hardware store ( my mom said she went into labor with me in that hardware) But is that correct? Just a little one but it had a soda bar too ?
