Giant Eagle May Add GetGo Station on Former Demor Lincoln-Mercury Property

A spokesman for the company says the plans are still in the preliminary stage.

Giant Eagle Inc. has submitted plans to Ross Township for a proposed GetGo convience store and gas station to be built on the property along McKnight Road formerly occupied by  car dealership.  

The 131,199 square-foot lot at 7675 McKnight Road after 41 years of operating at the location. 

Giant Eagle is under agreement to lease the property from the property owners, limited partnership BelDem McKnight, pending the township's approval of a variance request, according to the grocery chain's application, filed Oct. 18.

The variance request, submitted to the Ross Township Zoning Board, asks for permission to locate the gas pumps on the property. 

Current zoning does not outright permit gasoline sales in a regional commercial district. The zoning designation, C-1, is the township's most lenient commercial zoning, however, and permits higher intensity commercial and residential uses.

Gas stations, such as the , have been approved in the district in the past.

Details regarding the company's plans and timeline for opening the new business and the number of jobs it might create for the area were not immediately known.

A Giant Eagle spokesman, Dick Roberts, said the plans were in the preliminary stage. 

"I haven't seen this on the radar yet so that means it's probably way early in the game," he said.

Demor's Lincoln Mercury employed 30 people when it shut its doors. Service Manager Jim Walney said Ford Motor Co.  was consolidating its Lincoln dealerships, and was unable to reach agreement with Demor’s to keep its new-car lot open.
