New Women's Gym Opens in West View

"Pure Fitness for Women" takes over the spot formerly occupied by "Bodies R Us."

When "Bodies R Us" relocated in July from 153 Perry Highway to its new location in West View Park Plaza, some members with owner Lisa Brown.

Now a new gym is open in the old "Bodies R Us" location, and it's owned by a former member.

"Pure Fitness for Women" opened Friday as set-up and renovation work continues. A grand opening is scheduled for Sept. 29.

"We have a whole schedule of classes and we hope to add more as we go along," said owner Kim Gregory, who had belonged to "Bodies R Us" since 2003. "I loved this space, and I think women will like working out here, just as they had for many years."

In addition to a line of cardio equipment and strength training machines, the gym features spinning bikes and various exercise classes.

"We’re going to have a Pilates studio and there will be a massage therapist on staff by the end of the year," said Gregory. "We also have babysitting services available and locker rooms and showers and upstairs there are some tanning beds. We hope to offer manicure services in the future."

Right now, Gregory's priority is signing up new members.

“They can come in and sign a contract. There are several different options available. During the month of September, our special is that there is no initiation fee,” she said. “The membership fee includes everything, there’s no extra charge for any of the classes.”

The Sept. 29 grand opening will feature various vendors for products such as skin care and nutrition, plus a prize giveaway, which includes gym memberships.

Gregory is also working on a website for the gym, which she hopes to have up and running in a few days.
