Sheetz Managers Expect to Celebrate New Store Opening Nov. 23

The new Sheetz being built at 3025 Babcock Boulevard will employ 40 to 45 people, with 95 percent of the positions being new jobs. Managers are still hiring.

The new 24-hour Sheetz being built at the corner of Babcock Boulevard and Cemetery Lane will celebrate its grand opening Nov. 23, the day before Thanksgiving, company officials said. 

The store will open sometime early that afternon and managers will give away $100 Sheetz gift cards to the first 50 customers, said Georgette Acker, a Sheetz district manager. 

The convenience store, gas station and car wash will be open on Thanksgiving Day as well, she said.

"If you're tired of turkey, stop by and get a roast beef sandwhich," she said.

The store will employ about 40 to 45 people, with about 95 percent of those being new jobs. About half have been hired so far.

The company will hold open interviews for the remaining positions Oct. 25, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the . 

The township board approved use of the facility at no cost to the company at its meeting Oct. 10, agreeing 8-0 to provide space for job interviews when possible to any business in the township hiring 10 or more people. 

Those interested can also apply through the company's website.

Jackie Schaefers, the current manager of the McCandless Sheetz will be managing the new Ross location. She said she is looking for people with "great personalities."

"You definitely have to have a smile," she said. 

Crews have been working on the new 5,000-square-foot building, at 3025 Babcock Boulevard, since mid-summer. 

The new facility will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, every day of the year. 

Sheetz is a privately-owned business based in Altoona. It operates more than 350 stores in six states.
