Wendy's Tearing Down McKnight Road Restaurant

The fast food chain has plans for a new kind of restaurant at its Ross Township location.

The Wendy's restaurant at 7317 McKnight Road in Ross served its last customer Sunday, July 14.

The restaurant will be torn down, and a new, modernized Wendy's will take its place.

"There are a couple of reasons for this," said Tommy Morgan, North Region Construction Manager for Wendy's. "First the building is over 30 years old and 'tired' to say the least! Second, Wendy’s is in the beginning stages of a brand revitalization or Image Activation as we call it, where we plan to upgrade most if not all of our buildings to a new design and layout."

Morgan said the company is working on multiple locations in the Pittsburgh area, including a new restaurant at the site of the old Bauerle's Greenhouse in Wexford.

Wendy’s spokesman Denny Lynch noted to the Huffington Post that the new design disposes of the restaurant’s classic red faux-tile roof. There also will be tile or hardwood floors inside the restaurant instead of carpeting and more lounge chairs and cocktail-style tables.

Morgan said the new Wendy's on McKnight Road should be open in about four months.
