Losing It at Club Julian...

Success Story:  Personal Training Helps Amanda Drop 60 lbs.

We’re all tempted to stray from our healthy eating habits from time to time, but when you work in a pastry shop like Club Julian member Amanda Dieterich, the temptation is constant.  “I have battled weight issues all of my life,” says the 23 year-old.  “It has been like a yo-yo, up and down.  A lot of it has come from not eating right.”

But when she found that she had put on 60 lbs. in the five years since she graduated from North Hills High School, Amanda got serious about her health.  That’s when she decided to join a fitness club, and after weighing her options, she decided on Club Julian mainly because personal training was included in her membership.  “That was a big factor for me because I had never been a member at a gym before, and I needed help learning what to do.”

Unlike many members who prefer to use a single trainer for their workouts, Amanda wanted to experience working out with several different trainers to get varied perspectives.  She initially met with trainers Debby and Monica, who both offered expert guidance on nutrition, in addition to getting her started on circuit training.  Amanda worked with Trainer Nik because she was intrigued by the use of kettlebells in her routine.  But she says that her favorite turned out to be Trainer Catie.  “She pushes me the most,” explains Amanda, “she knows how to be innovative in structuring workouts, which I like because it makes it interesting.”

Amanda has balanced her personal training with a strong commitment to independent cardio workouts.  She enjoys the wide variety of equipment that Club Julian has to offer, and is a regular on the elliptical machines, arc trainers, Expresso bicycles, and even the challenging AMT equipment.  “I really like having all of the options,” she explains.

What Amanda also likes is what she sees when she looks in the mirror now.  She has lost a total of 60 lbs. in less than a year, and is back down to her high school graduation weight!

“Amanda pulled me aside one day in the Club and just said, ‘Thank you,’” explains Club Julian general manager Mike Savrese.  “When I asked her why she was thanking me, she told me her story.  To hear that Club Julian changed her life really made me feel good.  People don’t realize how the staff loves to hear about the success of our members.”
