Dr. Luther W. Spoehr, Longtime Ross Physican

Dr. Louis Spoehr 1920-2013

Dr. Luther W. Spoehr, who treated hundreds of patients for more than 50 years in the office attached to his Ross Township home, died July 11 at the Passavant Retirement Community in Zelienople. He was 93.

“He was chief medical officer for Bell Telephone three days a week and had his practice,” his daughter, Elaine Teare of Wexford told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. “He loved working with his patients, knowing their families.”

Spoehr graduated from Perry High School in 1936 and from the University of Pittsburgh Medical School in 1943. He was married for 62 years to Lois Jane Magee Spoehr.

Spoehr loved to take his family on vacations to the Grand Canyon, Mount Rushmore, Yellowstone National Park, Florida and Canada, his daughter told the Tribune-Review.

Spoehr served at Camp Carson, Colorado during the Korean War.

In addition to his daughter, Elaine, and son Luther, Dr. Spoehr is survived by a son, William Spoehr of Phoenix; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
