DUI Checkpoint Taking Place This Weekend in North Hills

You’ve been warned.

The North Hills DUI Task Force will hold a stationary checkpoint and roving patrol this weekend.

Police did not reveal the exact time or location for the sobriety checkpoint.

Earlier in September, Chief T. Robert Amann of the Northern Regional Police Department, which serves Pine, Richland and Marshall townships, as well as Bradford Woods, said a checkpoint would take place in the Pine Township area. 

He added the Wexford Volunteer Fire Company would assist officers with the checkpoint.

When police pull drivers over for suspected drunken driving, officers ask them to perform field sobriety tests and to take a breath test to measure Blood Alcohol Content.

A BAC test measures the percentage of alcohol present in a person's bloodstream. Pennsylvania's legal limit is 0.08.

According to the Virginia Tech Alcohol Abuse Prevention website, every 40 minutes, 0.01 percent of alcohol leaves your system. 

The North Hills DUI Task Force includes police from Bradford Woods, Etna, Indiana, Marshall, O’Hara, Pine, Richland, Ross, Shaler, West Deer and West View.

This is the 17th year for the North Hills DUI Task Force. 

To date, 171 check points/roving patrols have been conducted and there have been 1,746 individuals tested for DUI. Of those tested, 777 were arrested.
