Federal Charge Dropped Against Convicted Ross, Hopewell Rapist

Prosecutors say in light of Arthur Henderson's lengthy sentence for multiple rape convictions, prosecuting the federal charge would be an "unwarranted expenditure."

A federal judge has approved, at the request of federal prosecutors, the dropping of a federal indictment against convicted rapist Arthur Henderson, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported.

Henderson was sentenced last month to 61 to 122 years in prison  by Allegheny County Common Pleas Court Judge Donna Jo McDaniel for raping two women in Ross Township, and another in Hopewell Township over a three-day period in Jan. 2012.

After his arrest, Henderson was charged with the illegal possession of body armor.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Ross Lenhardt filed a motion last week seeking dismissal of the separate federal charge, noting that Henderson will likely "remain incarcerated for the rest of his life," the Post-Gazette reported.

Prosecuting the body armor case would be an "unwarranted expenditure of valuable judicial and prosecutorial resources," Lenhardt wrote.
