Lawsuit: West View Police Chief Blames McCandless Bar for Son's Death

West View Police Chief Bruce Fromlak is suing the owner of Billy's Roadhouse in McCandless, where his son drank for hours before dying in a car crash about a mile from the bar, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.  

McCandless police say on the night of January 27, Fromlak was driving south on Route 19 just past the split with McKnight Road when he lost control and his car rolled over into a grassy median. He died at the scene.

According to the lawsuit, Billy's Roadhouse, located at 10150 Old Perry Highway, continued to serve a visibly drunk Fromlak, and allowed him to walk to his car and drive away. He drank from about 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. while participating in "Billy's Winter Beer Olympics," the Trib reported.

Neither William Black, the owner of the bar, nor Bruce Fromlak or his attorney were available for comment according to the Trib.

According to the lawsuit, employees invited Jeffrey Fromlak to participate in “Billy's Winter Beer Olympics” and failed to stop serving Jeffery Fromlak after he became intoxicated. Employees did not arrange a ride home for him and did not notify police when they realized he was drunk, the Trib reported.

A 5K run/walk in Jeffrey Fromlak's memory, benefitting Make-A-Wish, will be held Sunday, June 30, at the North Park Boathouse.
