Ross Police Chief to Retire in Three Years

Chief Robert Bellan has been with Ross Township Police for 25 years.

Expressing regret, Ross Township Commissioners approved Police Chief Robert Bellan's request for a Deferred Retirement Option Plan, signaling that he will retire in three years.

The plan approved by the commissioners prevents Bellan from accruing additional pension benefits, but instead saves that money for his use after retirement.

The vote with 8-1 with board President Grant Montgomery voting no.

"I vote no simply because I prefer that you stay," Montgomery said.

"Can't we change that to a six year plan?" asked Commissioner David Mikec.

"I'm not going anywhere," said Bellan.

Montogomery was quick to respond.

"Three years is a very short time in the scheme of things," he said.

"Thank you for the sentiments," Bellan responded.

Bellan has served on the Ross force for 25 years. He was promoted to chief in 2011.
