Storms Bring Down Trees, Close Roads in Ross Township

A lightning strike is also suspected to triggering a utility pole fire.

Ross Township volunteer firefighters, police, and fire-police shut down roads and responded to dozens of calls in the wake of a brief, lightning-filled thunderstorm Tuesday afternoon.

A portion of Thompson Run Road between Sutter and Amity Road was closed after a suspected lightning strike triggered a utility pole fire. (watch video here.)

A portion of Hahn Road just off of Babcock Boulevard was also closed by a downed tree.

Police and firefighters responded to dozens of similar calls as utility crews worked to repair the damage and restore power.

There were no reports of any serious injuries.
