The couple had started construction on the split-level home in October, doing most of the work themselves. They had hoped to be in the new home by the end of June, in time to celebrate their son’s first birthday.

“We’re both out of time and energy now. Since October every night and every weekend, this is what we do,” he said.

Now, it will be up to the insurance company and its contractors to repair the damage.

“They got the heavy water damage out but they will have to tear off and replace much of rear roof, and repair a few of the trusses,” Scott said. “They told us a lot of the ceilings in the kitchen and master bath will have to come out and be repaired. And the whole back half of the garage, all the ceilings have to be replaced. ”

The couple has been living with Jennifer’s mother, who lives next door. Despite the damage, the couple considers themselves lucky.

“Nobody was hurt. We were supposed to move in sooner, maybe it’s a good thing we didn’t, “ Scott said. “Things got set back a bit but at least no one was in there.”
