West View Police Offer Notifications by Text Message for Neighborhood Activity

The department has divided the borough into six zones; neighbors in each zone can sign up to receive alerts when police are in the neighborhood or a number of crimes are committed in the area.

is now offering to notify you by text message, , told those gathered Monday for the monthly Crime Watch meeting. 

"Any time we're looking for someone or if there are a number of car break-ins in the area, we'll send out a text message to let you know right away," he said.

To keep the messages limited to only those closest, the has divided the borough into six notification zones:

Zone No. 1 includes Perry Highway from Ridgewood Avenue to Rochester Road, Highland Avenue from Perry Highway to Ashford Avenue, Chalfonte Avenue, Westfield Avenue, Wentworth Avenue, Ashford Avenue, Bellevue Avenue, Shwitter Avenue Glenmore Avenue, Township Road, North Park Drive, Cresson Avenue, Rochester Road from Perry Highway to Glenmore Avenue and Center Avenue from Perry Highway to Norwich Avenue.

Zone No. 2 includes Highland Avenue from Perry Highway to Wellington Drive, Rochester Road, Cross Creek, Hidden Valley, Jamaica Avenue, South Fork, Marquettte Road, Montclair Avenue, Wellington Drive, Meneola Avenue, Lakewood Avenue, Waverly Avenue, Hempstead Avenue, Bronx Avenue, Rochester Road from Perry Highway to Cross Creek, and Center Avenue from Perry Highway to Bronx Avenue.

Zone No. 3 includes Georgetown, Lehigh, Fordham, and Amherst Avenues; Columbia Avenue from Center Avenue to the dead end and from Center Avenue to Highland Avenue; Ann Arbor and Homekort Avenues; Princeton Avenue from Center Avenue to Ann Arbor Avenue; Cornell Avenue from Highland Avenue to Center Avenue; Center Avenue from Bronx Avenue to Princeton Avenue and Highland Avenue from Wellington Drive to Gass Road. 

Zone No. 4 includes Harvard and Kenyon Avenues; Cornell Avenue from Center Avenue (West View) to Center Avenue (Ross); Center Avenue from Bronx to Princeton Avenue; Yale and Vassar Avenues; Columbia Avenue from Harvard Avenue to the dead end; Carlisle Avenue; Dartmouth Avenue; Yale Avenue from Carlisle Avenue to the dead end; Oberlin and Adrian Avenues; Bronx Avenue from Center Avenue to Princeton Avenue; and Center Avenue from Bronx Avenue to Cornell Avenue (Ross). 

Zone No. 5 includes Center Avenue from Norwich Avenue to Oakwood Avenue; Norwich, Ridgewood, Oakwood, Curtis, Clairmont, Brightwood, Lansing, Hawthorne, Mt. Vernon, Magnolia and Keating Avenues as well as Bell Drive. 

Zone No. 6 includes Center Avenue from Oakwood Avenue to Perry Highway; Perry Highway from Ridgewood Avenue to Ross; Martsolf, Fairview, Oakley, Frankfort, Tomoka, Lipp, Park, Orlando, Richland and Oberlin Avenues.

A Facebook page for the West View Police Department is also coming shortly, Pavlecic said. It is on the agenda for approval by the West View Borough Council. 

"We will have this up and running soon," he said.
