Got Salt? Ross is Buying Tons of It

How much salt does it take to keep Ross township roads clear of snow and ice each winter?

Ross Township Commissioners Monday approved a contract to purchase tons of road salt from Morton salt for the coming winter.

The cost is $60.42 per delivered ton, the same rate as last year.

According to Ross Township Public works director Mike Funk, the township estimates it will need 12,000 tons next winter. With a 2,000 tons leftover from last winter, the township is anticipating spending $604,200 for road salt during the 2013-2014 winter season.
