North Park Planners Look Now to Area Around the Beloved Lake

After making repairs and filling in North Park Lake, county planners are seeking public input on improvements to the area around the lake. They are holding three public meetings and offering an online survey.

"This is a well used and beloved area of the park," said Christine Fulton, executive director of the Allegheny County Parks Foundation.

", I think everyone would like to see further enhancements," she said.

The plan will be crafted from public input given through a survey on the website and at three meetings — the first will be held Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Rose Barn in , off Pearce Mill Road.

The second meeting will be a presentation of design alternatives, including the Lake Trail. It will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Nov. 17 at the Rose Barn. After the presentation, participants will be able to provide feedback on the various options and project elements to help craft a consensus vision for the area.

The third meeting on Dec. 14 will be a presentation of the final Lake Area Master Plan and will outline plans for implementation. The meeting also will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Rose Barn.

Fulton said planners will be seeking feedback about what parts of the park users would like to keep and where they would like to see improvements. They are looking for feedback from anyone who uses the park — from the fishermen to horseback riders to hikers and walkers.

GAI Consultants Inc., an engineering and environmental consulting firm, will conduct the meeting and prepare a final report due in late January.
