Ross Commissioners Seek Grant to Add Disc Golf to Evergreen Park

The disc golf course would replace a fit trail system which is now considered dangerous.

Ross Township Commissioners voted 8-0 Monday to apply for a $72,350 grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources to make improvements to Evergreen Park. Commissioner Dan DeMarco was absent.

The project would:

  • Add additional parking behind the pavilion
  • Expand the road at the park
  • Replace the fit trail system with a disc golf course
Ross Recreation Director Eloise Peet told the commissioners the fit trail has become a hazard. She said the disc golf would be similar to the one in Pittsburgh's Schenley Park.

Disc golf is played much like traditional golf. Instead of a ball and clubs, however, players use a flying disc, or Frisbee®, according to the Professional Disc Golf Association.
