Part of Thompson Run Road Closes Tuesday for Bridge Project

Local traffic will have access, but others will be detoured to McIntyre and McKnight roads.

Thompson Run Road will close to through traffic just south of the Amity Road intersection beginning at 9 a.m. Tuesday, July 5, according to the Allegheny County Public Works Department.

All local traffic will have access. Motorists heading southbound on Thompson Run Road will be able to turn left onto Amity Road.

Through traffic will follow the posted detour. Southbound traffic will turn right from Thompson Run Road onto McIntyre and travel about one mile to McKnight Road and turn left. Motorists will continue on McKnight Road, turn left onto Seibert Road back toward Thompson Run Road.

Motorists heading northbound on Thompson Run Road will follow the detour in reverse.

The road closure is necessary for a bridge replacement project and is expected to last through early November, the department said.

The closure is in addition to lane restrictions on Thompson Run Road between Babcock Boulevard and Vilsack Road, where crews are making emergency repairs to a retaining wall. Crews are allowing alternating traffic through the construction area. The restrictions are expected to last a few more weeks.

The projects are in addition to several others ongoing or just getting started in the area.

McKnight Road between Babcock Boulevard and Perrymont Road has been reduced to a single lane during the evenings and will remain restricted until October.

Additional lane closures are also taking place on Babcock Boulevard in the area of McKnight Road from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. weekday nights for the same $8.8 million project intended to improve the McKnight roadway and curb and sidewalks.

Signals are also being upgraded on McKnight between Nelson Run Road and Perrymont Road, and bridge preservation work is being done on the structure that carries McKnight Road over Babcock Boulevard, affecting that area and parts of Peebles Road.
