Principal's Notes
RESIDENCY

If your address has changed, you may be asked to supply new proof of residency with your change of address.

As a resident, it is important that we share information with you about fraudulent residency, which is based on the Pennsylvania School Code. Specifically, North Hills School District's Board policy #202 provides guidance for the attendance of nonresident students. In this policy there is a section on fraudulent student residency, which states:

In the event that students enroll in the North Hills School District and their residence is found to be fraudulent, they will be assessed tuition for the period of time that they are illegally enrolled. As stated, legal enrollment will be determined by the Pennsylvania School Code. If a family has moved and maintains a fraudulent enrollment, the district will file criminal charges. In addition, the district will withdraw the child from school and charge the family the full tuition fees for the number of days in which their child was illegally enrolled. Currently, the state-determined tuition charge for attending North Hills School District is $10,398.02 per year (or $57.77 per day) for an elementary school student and $10,712.85 per year (or $59.52 per day) for a secondary school student. We are confident, however, that you will provide the required, accurate proofs of residency if your address has changed.

CLASSROOM ASSIGNMENTS FOR 2012-13
In the North Hills School District, a process is in place by which the teachers and administrators work together to develop class lists that are composed of students with a range of academic achievement, learning styles, and behavior characteristics. Criterion used in the determination of class assignments includes:

  • Special services
  • Equitable distribution of students
  • Gender balance
  • Learning/teaching styles
  • Peer interactions

These areas are critical in the final decision for assigning each student.

Assigning students to classrooms is a complex process that is approached in a serious manner by the professional staff. As a school community, our first priority is to provide the best education for all students. Therefore, parental requests for a specific teacher cannot be accepted.
