Cold War Air Defense of Pittsburgh

There are a number of locations in the North Hills and surrounding areas that served as Cold War defense sites in the days of high tension between the United States and the Soviet Union because this region was considered a possible target for a nuclear attack. Some of these sites have been dismantled, while others have been remodeled for other purposes. Come to Northland Library when Tom Koedel and Rob Skertich, who have done extensive research on these sites, will present a fascinating program complete with maps and pictures that may surprise you. Registration can be made online on the library website at www.northlandlibrary.org or by calling the adult servicesdepartment reference desk at 412-366-8100, extension 113.
