Jack McCurry's Biggest Win May Have Come Off the Field

A former North Hills Superintendent fired McCurry in 2000.

There are hundreds of victories Jack McCurry celebrated in his 35 years as head football coach of the North Hills Indians. McCurry announced his retirement Monday night, receiving accolades from superintendent Dr. Patrick J. Mannarino and athletic director Dan Cardone.

However McCurry's biggest win may have come inside a school auditorium, and not on the football field.

In May of 2000, then superintendent John Esaias fired McCurry, believing that the coach could not also serve at the high school principal.

Five days later, in a meeting filled with hundreds of McCurry's supporters, the school board reversed the decision and reinstated the coach.
