McIntyre Elementary Students Brighten Holiday for Pen Pal with Cancer

A first grader has been corresponding for the past few months with a five-year old girl in Virginia who suffers from cancer.

McIntyre Elementary School students in Carol Nelson’s first-grade class shared holiday warmth across the miles with a special gift for a class member’s pen pal.

McIntyre first-grade student Sydney Gahring, 7, has been corresponding for the past few months with Emily, 5, who lives in Virginia. Emily suffers from neuroblastoma differential, a cancer that strikes children and consists of a malignant tumor that forms from tissue associated with the nervous system.

Sydney and her classmates decided to brighten Emily’s holiday with a special gift. The first-grade class created a blanket, painted cards with help from sixth-grade buddies, and donated presents for a special gift basket that will be delivered to Emily.
