Mistaken Call: North Hills Parents Incorrectly Told Their Child was Absent or Tardy

Hundreds of parents called the high school switchboard before a second call, explaining the mistake, could go out.

Editor's note: Earlier, the district blamed the mistake on a "glitch" in the system. The district later clarified that it was due to an "accidental human error."

Parents of each and every student at North Hills High School received a call Friday morning telling them their child was either tardy or absent from class.

But in fact, most students were in their classrooms on time.

The district posted the following information, explaining the mistake, on its web site:

"North Hills High School families received a call this morning alerting parents to the fact that their student(s) were absent from school today. Due to an accidental human error, incorrect information was sent to all families in error. A correct call will be sent out to just those affected by today's absences.
We apologize for any inconvenience, the call with incorrect information may have caused."

About 90 minutes later, a second call went out to all parents, explaining the mistake.
