North Hills Cheerleaders Advance to First-Ever PIAA Competitive Spirit Championships

This s the first year that the WPIAL and PIAA classified and recognized cheerleading as a sport.

North Hills cheerleaders will compete in the first-ever PIAA Competitive Spirit Championships on Feb. 2 at the Giant Center in Hershey following a stellar performance in the inaugural WPIAL Competitive Cheerleading Championships. 

The WPIAL event was held on Jan. 12 at North Hills Senior High School and welcomed 300 area cheerleaders.

North Hills finished sixth in Class AAA and advanced along with six other teams to the statewide tournament. This is the first trip for the team as WPIAL and PIAA classified and recognized cheerleading as a sport this season. 

Each team was graded on the cheer portion and a music segment of their performances. Teams were scored out of a possible 100 points on categories such as partner stunts, pyramids, tumbling, presentation of material and execution.
