The North Hills School District has become the first school district in Allegheny County to launch a personalized and unique app for smartphones and tablets.
The free app, short for application, is available for download in the Apple App Store and Google Play by searching for NHSD. It is compatible with all iPhone, iPad and Android devices. A QR code also is available on the district's website for user convenience.
Created exclusively for the district by Louisiana-based company SchoolInfoApp, the app enables parents, students, community members, alumni and staff to quickly access information about the district without having access to a computer.
"Nearly 93 percent of Americans now utilize their smartphones and tablets to access important news and information. For us, creating a personalized app to reach those engaged and interested users was a logical step in the district's efforts to maximize communication efforts between North Hills School District and our community," said North Hills School District's Communications Coordinator Amanda Hartle.
"With the district app, North Hills School District families, alumni, community members and students can access the latest district events, news, photos and calendars immediately from the palm of their hand without having to access a computer."
The NHSD app offers various calendars for district events and athletics and the ability to add events to your device calendar or share calendars with others. Users also will find maps and directions to events and will be offered automatic push notifications to alert users to event and calendar changes.
Students will have access to a virtual assignment book to keep up with their homework, tests and projects, complete with a due date and priority level.
North Hills currently is accepting support of community businesses and organizations through sponsorship opportunities within the app. To learn more about the app or to become a sponsor, visit www.schoolinfoapp.com.
