North Hills Musicians & Vocalists Chosen for District Musical Events

District participants were chosen by teacher recommendations.

Vocalists Chosen for District Chorus 
A pair of North Hills Senior High School vocalists were chosen for the 2013 Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) Region I Choral Festival at Quaker Valley High School on Feb. 6 to 8. Junior Nathan Spear – Bass I and sophomore Matthew Plazek – Bass II were selected to represent North Hills at the annual music event.

Students were chosen from a large pool of other vocalists from Allegheny, Fayette, Green, Westmoreland and Washington County school districts that make up PMEA District I. Students prepared a piece and were rated on their performance of a selection of the piece by a panel of judges. At the district event, students will compete to earn a spot at the PMEA Regional Choral Festival.

District Orchestra Festival 
North Hills School District musicians recently were selected from a vast pool of talent to attend upcoming Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) Senior High District I Orchestra Festival.

Senior Madison Fischer – violin; juniors Elena Gowdy – clarinet, Stephen Knott – trumpet and Samantha Bell – French horn and sophomores Christie Adamiak – violin, Shannon Kelley – viola, Eric Meister – bass, David Vevers – trombone and Tommy Ulrich – Trombone will represent North Hills at the event, which will be held at Pine-Richland High School on Jan. 10 to 12.

District orchestra combines the talents of 150 students from around the area. District participants were chosen by teacher recommendations, and during the festivals, musicians will audition for PMEA Regional Orchestra festival, one step fromPMEA’s All-State festivals.

District Band 
North Hills School District musicians have been chosen to perform at the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) Senior High District I West Band Festival.

Juniors Samantha Bell – French horn, Elena Gowdy – clarinet, Stephen Knott – cornet, Grace Lizak - euphonium and sophomores Alexa Galdes – French horn and Tommy Urich – trombone will represent North Hills at the event, which will be held at Baldwin High School on Jan. 23 to 25.

The festival combines the talents of about 150 high school students from five counties in Western Pennsylvania. Students were selected based upon PMEA Honors Band audition results and teacher recommendations. At the festival, students will audition for the regional festival, which is one step from All-State Band.
