North Hills Tuba Player Awarded Scholarship

Cameron Huffmyer was one of six area high school seniors awarded a scholarship from the Blackwood Theater Organ Society.

Cameron Huffmyer, who plays the Tuba at North Hills High School, has been awarded a scholarship from the Blackwood Theatre Organ Society, the group said in a statement. 

Huffmyer was one of six area high school seniors awarded a 2013 scholarship. 

The Blackwood Theater Organ Society is a not for profit organization created to encourage students to pursue instrumental music performance careers. Over the past thirteen years, the Society has awarded more than $201,000 in scholarships to high school seniors planning to pursue an instrumental music performance degree in college.

This year’s scholarships totaled $22,500. 

Huffmyer was awarded the scholarship following an audition at Heinz Hall on March 10, 2013. Huffmyer was awarded Best Section and received the Director’s Award in his High School Band.

He has been accepted into numerous high-level honors bands, including the River City Youth Brass Band and the Carnegie-Mellon Pre-College program.

With the exception of the French horn, he has also studied and mastered all of the brass instruments. Huffmyer hopes to be a professional musician and a band teacher.
