Tickets Available for North Hills Sports Hall of Fame Dinner

The annual event is Sept. 13.

Tickets are available for the 18th annual Sports Hall of Fame dinner. The event is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Sept. 13 at at 3382 Babcock Boulevard in Ross Township. 

This year’s inductees include Dave Collins - Class of 1981, Kevin Donas - Class of 1982, Marc Mitchell - Class of 2001, Robert Weider - Class of 1968 and Sara Zilles - Class of 2002.

Inductees also will be honored during the North Hills High School football game on Sept. 14 at .

Tickets including dinner are $35 per person and the deadline to register is Sept. 4. Checks should be made payable to North Hills School District. To place a reservation, contact North Hills School District’s Activities Coordinator Chelle Zimmerman at 412-318-1438 or zimmermanm@nhsd.net.

Dave Collins (Class of 1981) – Collins was an outstanding soccer player at North Hills where he was a three-year varsity starter and captain his senior year. Scoring 76 goals from 1978 to 1980, he is the leading career scorer in North Hills history. Collins was ranked first in 1980 and second in 1979 for the highest number of goals per season. He helped lead the North Hills soccer team to its first WPIAL Section Championship and was voted by WPIAL coaches to the WPIAL All-Star Team his junior and senior years. Collins continues to contribute to North Hills’ soccer as he has coached youth soccer for the past eight years. He resides in the North Hills with his wife and family.

Kevin Donas (Class of 1982)  – Donas earned six varsity letters in football and basketball at North Hills.  He was named All-Conference in football and was selected to the Post-Gazette Fabulous 22 North Team. Donas also was chosen to participate in the Pennsylvania Big 33 Game. He earned a football scholarship to the University of Maryland where he was an All-Conference linebacker for the Terrapins. Kevin resides in Beaver Falls with his family and is thedirector of operations for the Cogos Company.

Marc Mitchell (Class of 2001) – Mitchell earned seven varsity letters in track and field and basketball and set the record for the long jump. Mr. Mitchell held the WPIAL record for the long jump three consecutive years. He was named to the All-State Team at the 1999 PIAA State Track & Field Championships. Mitchell received an athletic scholarship to Kent State University and earned four varsity letters in track and field. Marc is employed at Dexter Magnetic Technologies as a systems administrator and resides in Deerfield, Ill., with his family.

Robert Weider (Class of 1968) – Weider was a pitcher on the baseball team and played on a semi-professional baseball team after his graduation from North Hills.With his love for baseball along with his training and knowledge, Weider has been instrumental in promoting the sport of baseball in the North Hills community for over 20 years. He has coached North Hills' community baseball and helps organize the local baseball and softball recreation programs. Robert continues to coach and resides in the North Hills.

Sara Zilles (Class of 2002) - Zilles earned eight varsity letters in softball, soccer and basketball at North Hills. She helped lead the softball team to their 2000 WPIAL Championship title. Zilles was named All-Section four years and to the 2002 Terrific 12 All-Area Team. She earned eight varsity letters at North Hills. Zilles attended the University of Akron where she excelled in softball. She was named 2003 Freshman of the Year, University of Akron Defensive Player of the Year three years in a row, University of Akron MVP 2006 and captain of her team. She has been a member of the Akron Racers Pro Softball Team. Zilles resides in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, where she is an account manager for Meyer Distributing.
