Pat Carey Era Begins at North Hills
The former defensive coordinator succeeds Jack McCurry as the Indians' head football coach.
Pat Carey takes the field Friday night for the first time as the North Hills head football coach.
North Hills visits Penn-Trafford in its season opener. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m.
Carey, the Indians' assistant head coach and defensive coordinator since 1998, was hired in February to succeed Jack McCurry, who retired in January after 35 seasons.
Carey admitted Wednesday to WTAE-TV that he has a few pre-game jitters.
Here's what the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Mike White has to say about the Indians' prospections this season:
"The lines look to be the strength, led by Colin Murphy and Elliot King. Alex Danis, Brandon Malick, C.J. Fuchs and Mike Fidago also return on the lines and tight end-linebacker Corey Bopp figures to be one of the Indians' best players. Developing some running backs will be crucial and Kevin Koch could be a big part of the running game."
Also new this season will be the uniforms. The old-style jerseys with stripes down the shoulders and sleeves will give way to new uniforms that are red, white and gray.
Carey said he will continue the North Hills tradition of giving out skull and cross-bone helmet decals for big plays or accomplishments.
