Fireworks & Parade Highlight Ross Independence Day Celebration

This year, Ross celebrates the 4th of July on the 1st of July.

There's something for everyone as  hosts its 16th annual  today. 

"As everyone knows, this is a free event and we are expecting a record crowd," said parade chairman, Ross Commissioner Jerry O'Brien.

The festivities begin with the 10th annual . Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. at the high school.

At 4 p.m. the Independence Day parade steps off on Perry Highway in front of . Marchers will head north to the parade's end point at Lindley Lane. (Note: Perry Highway will be closed from Rochester Road to Three Degree Raod from 3-5 p.m.)

Following the parade, the celebration moves to the , where there will be arts and crafts, face painting, inflatable activities, a petting zoo, various games and a concessions stand.

The band, Kardaz, will be playing classic rock hits from the 60's and 70's from early evening until the beginning of the fireworks show.

Something new this year is the "Utlimate Gaming Trailer," sponsored by Ridgewood Church.

"It's a 30 foot trailer with 16 play stations that can all be used at one time, it should be a very interesting experience," said O'Brien. 

Fireworks are scheduled to begin between 9 and 9:30 p.m., courtesy of . 

The evening ends with a movie in the park, the Steven Spielberg blockbuster The Adventures of Tintin.

Shuttle service will be provided all day and into the evening from the community center to the  and .

 "The weather is supposed to be nice so we hope that everyone plans to attend," said O'Brien.
