If you're looking for a nice drive and outdoor events Sunday, the Friends of Harrison Hills Park will host several work sessions and events from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The first event will include picking up fallen branches, raking leaves, weeding and adding compost and mulch around the center’s plantings.

Participants may also choose to help maintain Harrison Hills Park’s 14 miles of trails by removing litter and fallen branches, trimming branches that are blocking trail blazes, and marking the locations of fallen trees on a trail map. Those interested in working on the trails are asked to bring tools such as pruning saws, loppers and pruners.

Allegheny County Naturalist & Horticulturist Tammy Watychowicz will also lead a hike and work session to see beautiful wildflowers and also identify and remove invasive plants on Harrison Hills Park’s 1.4-mile Pond Trail, which is rated easy to moderate. Trash bags, gloves and some tools will be available. Volunteers interested in this session are asked to bring pruners.

Children ages 7 through 14 are invited to learn how to play marbles from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Harrison Hills Park Environmental Learning Center.

Each child will receive a free bag of marbles and is welcome to join in a work session after playing.

All volunteers and children will be treated to a “Make Your Own Sundae” ice cream social at 4:00 p.m. at the Environmental Learning Center. For additional information about the events at Harrison Hills Park, call 724-224-4102 or visit www.friendsofharrisonhills.org.
