Panera Bread has yet to commit to McCandless Crossing.
In a unanimous vote Monday night, McCandless Town Council approved an amendment to an ordinance, which prohibits drive-through restaurants along the stretch of McKnight Road that borders the fourth and final phase of the McCandless Crossing development. That phase is located is on the east side of McKnight Road between Duncan Avenue and Cumberland Road. The amendment was requested by Warren, Ohio-based Covelli Enterprises, the largest Panera Bread franchise in the country. Covelli has many Panera stores in the Pittsburgh region. Covelli has not yet signed a lease to open a Panera in McCandless Crossing, according to Bruce Betty, McCandless Land Use Administrator. Betty said there are limitations to the amendment to discourage a typical …

Residents of the Woodhawk Club said the intersection of McKnight Road and Johnanna Drive had become very dangerous.
More that six weeks after a resident complained to the Ross Township Commissioners about a huge pothole at Johnanna Drive and McKnight Road, crews Tuesday filled it with fresh asphalt. The Woodhawk Club confirmed it hired the workers who performed the repairs. Vicki Chang, a Woodhawk club resident, said on Feb. 4 that the entrance to Johnanna Drive acted as a speed bump, causing a dangerous backup of northbound traffic on McKnight Road. (See video and Click "view larger map" for exact location). At the time, Solicitor Bonnie Brimmeier said there was little the township could do because the road is privately owned. "There's three parties up there, the Woodhawk Club, the E-Z storage, and the Ivy Woods, which is the homeowners association …

McCandless Council must first vote to ease a restriction on drive-through restaurants along a portion of McKnight Road.
A drive-through Panera Bread Restaurant may be coming to McCandless Crossing, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported. But first, McCandless Town council must vote to ease a restriction on drive-through restaurants along the stretch of McKnight Road that borders the fourth and final phase of the McCandless Crossing development. It is located is on the east side of McKnight Road between Duncan Avenue and Cumberland Road. Currently, drive-through restaurants are not permitted along that section of McKnight said Bruce Betty, the township's land-use administrator. McCandless officials' intent with the 1986 restriction was to prevent high-volume traffic and maintain the character of the stretch, Betty told the Trib. “It's up to council to …

Residents of the Woodhawk Club said the intersection of McKnight Road and Johnanna Drive is dangerous.
Two weeks after Ross Township Solicitor Bonnie Brimmeier told Ross Commissioners that the three entities responsible for maintaining Johnanna Drive are promising to repair the entrance to the road at the intersection with McKnight Road, several large potholes remain. Brimmeier admits there is little more the township can do because the road is privately owned. "There's three parties up there, the Woodhawk Club, the E-Z storage, and the Ivy Woods, which is the homeowners association for the condos that are up there," she said. "Their attorney told me the owner of Woodhawk was intending to make the repairs and then seek contributions from the other parties that are responsible and I suggested that they do it as quickly as possible." The …

Backups at the pumps and heavy traffic around the Babcock Boulevard GetGo have lessened.
While business remains brisk at the new GetGo at the corner of McKnight Road and Browns Lane, sales have apparently slowed at the GetGo store and gas station nearby at 5603 Babcock Boulevard. But that's not necessarily a bad thing. Nearby residents had complained often about traffic backing up along Babcock Boulevard, as drivers waited, not always patiently, to redeem their fuelperks. When announcing its plans for the new McKnight Road GetGo, Pat Avoilio, Director of Real Estate Development and Construction for Giant Eagle Inc., told the Ross planning commission that the company hoped construction of the new GetGo would alleviate some of the congestion around its Babcock location. The prediction appears to have come true. "You don't have …

Residents of the Woodhawk Club said the intersection of McKnight Road and Johnanna Drive is dangerous.
Ross Township Solicitor Bonnie Brimmeier told Ross Commissioners Tuesday that the three entities responsible for maintaining Johnanna Drive are promising to repair the entrance to the road at the intersection with McKnight Road. The issue came to light when a Woodhawk club resident, Vicki Chang, complained to the commissioners on Feb. 4 the entrance to Johnanna Drive acts like a speed bump. (See video and Click "view larger map" for exact location) "Because of the poor road conditions, drivers slow down to a nearly complete stop when entering from McKnight Road," she said. "This greatly increases the chances of rear-end collisions because the cars behind you are still traveling at nearly 40 miles an hour." Although the road is privately…
