New McKnight GetGo Appears to Ease Congestion at Old Babcock Location

Backups at the pumps and heavy traffic around the Babcock Boulevard GetGo have lessened.

While business remains brisk at the new GetGo at the corner of McKnight Road and Browns Lane, sales have apparently slowed at the GetGo store and gas station nearby at 5603 Babcock Boulevard. But that's not necessarily a bad thing. Nearby residents had complained often about traffic backing up along Babcock Boulevard, as drivers waited, not always patiently, to redeem their fuelperks.  When announcing its plans for the new McKnight Road GetGo, Pat Avoilio, Director of Real Estate Development and Construction for Giant Eagle Inc., told the Ross planning commission that the company hoped construction of the new GetGo would alleviate some of the congestion around its Babcock location. The prediction appears to have come true. "You don't have …

I wish Giant Eagle would have told the truth about doing away with the food perks. They said people were confused. Actually they are saving a ton of money. Ten gallons equalled 1% or $1 on a $100 purchase. $.03 is $.30. Also when they opened on McKnight their price for regular was $3.85 and it was 3.79 at Zozo's on Peebles Road.   more ›

McKnight Road GetGo Opens Ahead of Schedule

Calling it a soft opening, the gas station and convenience store opened its doors Monday morning.

It didn't take long for customers to discover the new GetGo at the corner of McKnight Road and Browns Lane in Ross Township was open for business. A Giant Eagle spokesman had said the store would open Thursday, Feb. 21, but the company decided to try a so-called "soft opening" Monday morning. By Monday afternoon, the parking lot was full and the gas pumps were humming. A grand opening is still scheduled for Thursday. The new GetGo sells much more than soft drinks and fuel, according to Giant Eagle spokesman Dick Roberts. Among the items customers can buy: Construction began on the new GetGo began in late August, and the transformation at the site was dramatic.  To help deal with the expected increase in traffic, the left turn lane …

Opening Date Set for McKnight Road GetGo

The convenience store and gas station has been under construction since August.

The new GetGo at the intersection of McKnight Road and Browns Lane in Ross Township will open Thursday, Feb. 21, said Giant Eagle spokesman Dick Roberts. Construction began in late August, and the transformation at the site has been dramatic.  To help deal with the expected increase in traffic, the left turn lane northbound on McKnight Road has been lengthened, and the lower end of Brown's Lane has been widened to four lanes.  The company also owns a GetGo store and gas station nearby at 5603 Babcock Boulevard, and it hopes construction of the new GetGo will alleviate some of the congestion around its Babcock location. The site had been the long time home of the Demor's Lincoln-Mercury dealership. Follow us on Twitter | Like us on Facebook…

with giant eagle ending food perks ad devaluing gas perks they may find their new store doesnt draw in the customers like they predicted. All the get goes appeared very busy, with customers lined up to buy gasoline, backing into pump lines, and generally a real pain to buy gas.. So I have decided to avoid get goes altogether, back to the pre promo days when I bought gas where convenient on my …   more ›

New Ross Township GetGo to Open by Mid-2013

When the plans were first announced, Giant Eagle had hoped to have the convenience store and gas station open by the end of 2012.

A new Getgo convenience store is starting to take shape inside a fenced-in construction zone at the intersection of McKnight Road and Browns Lane in Ross Township.  "The GetGo on McKnight Road will open early to mid-2013," said Giant Eagle spokesman Dick Roberts of Roberts Communications. That's three to six months later than predicted when Giant Eagle first unveiled its plans nearly a year ago. Construction began in late August, and the transformation at the site has been dramatic.  Pat Avolio, Giant Eagle's director of real estate development and construction told the Ross planning commission in February that plans for the 2.85 acre site had been modified to address concerns about increased traffic at the intersection of Brown's Lane and…
