Hopewell Police Connect Third Victim to Suspect in Ross Attacks

Hopewell Township Police filed charges today against Arthur Lamont Henderson, 38, of the North Side, in a rape that occurred Jan. 7—the same morning as one of the two that occurred in Ross Township.

The man facing charges in Ross Township for the rapes of two women earlier this month is now being charged with the rape of a third victim in Beaver County.  Hopewell Township Police filed charges today in Magisterial District Court 36-3-04 against Arthur Lamont Henderson, 38, of the North Side, in a rape that occurred Jan. 7—the same morning as one of the two that occurred in Ross Township, said Hopewell Township Police Det. Greg Durkos.  The third victim is the only other known sexual assault victim at this time in Beaver or Allegheny Counties, officials said.  Bob Huston, director of the lab at the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office, said the lab has requested a review of local cases to determine if there are any other victims…

Man Facing Charges in Attacks of Ross Women Told the Victims He Needed Money

One of the attacks occurred in the room of the woman's 4-month-old baby while her fiance was tied up in an adjacent room, according to the criminal complaint filed by Ross Township Police.

The man police say raped two Ross Township women earlier this month told both women he needed money and forced them to hand over cash, jewelry and credit cards before assaulting and leaving them bound with duct tape, according to a criminal complaint. One of the attacks occurred in the room of the woman's 4-month-old baby while her fiance was tied up in an adjacent room, according to the complaint filed by Ross Township Police to obtain an arrest warrant Wednesday. Police arrested Arthur Lamont Henderson, 38, of the North Side, early Thursday morning in the Hill District in connection with the attacks. Police Arrest Suspect in Ross Attacks

Arthur L. Henderson, 38, of the North Side, was arrested by police early Thursday morning. Henderson is the suspect in the two sexual attacks on Ross Township women earlier this month.

Arthur L. Henderson, 38, of the North Side, was arrested early Thursday morning by Ross Township Police, with the help of other agencies, including the FBI and the Pittsburgh Police Department.  Henderson was apprehended in the Hill District neighborhood of the city of Pittsburgh, police said.  He is the suspect in the two recent sexual assaults of women outside their apartment complexes.  An arrest warrant was issued for Henderson late afternoon Wednesday by Judge Richard Opiela of Magisterial District Court 05-2-02. The FBI had offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to his arrest.  It was not immediately clear how police discovered Henderson's whereabouts. Ross Police to Announce Arrest Warrant Issued for Man Who Attacked Two Women

The suspect was not in custody and police did not know where he is as of 2:30 p.m., Ross Police spokesman Sgt. Benjamin Dripps said.

Ross Township Police have scheduled a 5 p.m. press conference to announce that an arrest warrant has been issued for a suspect in the two recent sexual assaults of women in Ross.  The suspect was not in custody and police did not know where he is as of 2:30 p.m., Ross Police spokesman Sgt. Benjamin Dripps said. As of 3:40 p.m., an arrest warrant had not been filed with Magisterial District Court 05-2-02. The press conference will be held downtown at Allegheny County's Office of the Medical Examiner, Dripps said. Search for Man Who Attacked Women in Ross Continues while Residents Worry

A special Crime Watch meeting for Ross Township residents is being organized by officials. A date and time for the meeting is expected to be announced Monday.

Ross Township Police continued to search Thursday for the man responsible for sexually assaulting two women within days of each other, while North Hills residents remained extra vigilant in the wake of the news.  "The fear is out there so bad with everyone," said Ross Commissioner Lana Mazur. "Women who have never been afraid before are afraid."  Mazur, who organizes the township's quarterly Crime Watch meetings, said a special crime watch meeting is being planned this month. Officials are expected to announce a date and time Monday for the meeting.  The meeting is being coordinated with Ross Township Police Chief Robert Bellan, Mazur said.  "Every possible police officer is working on catching this guy," she said.
