Re-Opening of Center Avenue Bridge Delayed

The bridge, which connects Ross and Bellevue, has been closed since March.

The Levi Bird Duff Bridge, which carries Center Avenue over the Parkway North/Interstate 279 will not reopen at the end of the month as scheduled.

Ross Commissioner David Mickec said Monday night it would likely be sometime in December before the $3 million repair project is complete.

The steel girder bridge was built in 1983. The project involved rehabilitating concrete piers, replacing the deck surface with latex concrete, adding new sidewalks, guide-rails and protective fencing, and other repairs, according to the Allegheny County Department of Public Works.

Drivers have had to use detours, some over 6-miles long, since the bridge closed during the first week of March.
