Ross Man Charged with Cashing Dead Mother's Benefit Checks for 40 Years

Chauncey Clinton could face up to 10 years in prison if convicted.

A federal grand jury has indicted a Ross Township man on charges he cashed his deceased mother's social security checks for 40 years.

According to the indictment, from June 1, 1973, to April 3, 2012, Chauncey Clinton converted to his own use $304,853.00 in Social Security Title II, Old Age, Survivor’s Disability Insurance benefit payments of his mother, Clara Clinton, who died on May7, 1973.

The indictment alleges Clinton, who lives on Varney Street, knew he was not entitled to that money.

If convicted, Clinton faces up to ten years in prison and a fine of $250,000.
