North Hills Students Place in State SkillsUSA Competition

The competition was held recently in Hersey, PA.

North Hills Senior High School and A.W. Beattie Career Center students placed in the 2013 SkillsUSA State Competition in Hershey.

Junior Allison Cross, who is enrolled in the preschool teaching assistant program, secured third place; senior Bonnie Adamiak, who is enrolled in the cosmetology, won fifth place and Brittney Gill and Kaitlin Bigley, who are enrolled in advertising design, claimed ninth place in the annual competition that showcases the best career and technical students in the state.  

The students advanced to the state competition following first-place awards at the district event.

Bonnie demonstrated her skills in haircutting, hair styling and long hair design in four separate tests on mannequins in the cosmetology category, and Allison exhibited her knowledge in the early childhood education category by preparing a written lesson plan and completing an assessment on her knowledge of child development and effective teaching strategies.

Brittney and Kaitlin teamed up to created a promotional bulletin board to promote career and technical education programs and careers and deliver an oral presentation on the topic.

A.W. Beattie welcomes students from nine northern area school districts to enroll in one, two or three-year technical programs, while still taking academic classes at their home school.
